Crucifixion
This is a picture of Jesus Christ with his hands and feet nailed to a simple cross. On his head there is a crown of thorns. There are people who are worshipers surrounding him as he is dying on the cross. Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus were surrounding him at the time because after he died they carried him to a rock tomb to be buried. There is a dark sky above him which makes this picture look more depressing. The worshiper’s facial expressions are also sad which contributes to the depressing look. It looks like there is a guard in the background making sure there is no escape for Jesus.
The Crucifixion took place around first century A.D. In the Christian faith Jesus is recognized as the messiah, as the son of God. Christians believe that Jesus died on the cross for our salvation so that our sins could be forgiven. Christians believe that three days after Jesus died on the cross, he rose again and ascended into heaven to rejoin God his father. According to the Apostles Creed “He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end”. He wears the crown of thorns because his tormentors placed it on his head as a way to mock him for being the king of Jews. This was important to the Christian faith because he was our leader and was killed as a human but rose again and went to heaven as a god.
